On Saturday August 25th and Sunday August 26th, crews were kept busy with numerous incidents around the township, due to the severe weather in the Enola area, as well as several other calls.

Around 13:00 hours on Wednesday July 25th, crews were dispatched to 18-01 box at 229 West Columbia Road for a house fire.  Chief 1-18 (Stazewski) arrived on scene to find a deck to the rear of the structure on fire.  The visible exterior fire was knocked down by crews, but the fire had already worked its way into the structure.  This fire ended up going to a the third alarm assignment, due to the heat, and limited manpower during the daylight hours.  Crews were also hampered by a lack of truck access, and had to use ground ladders to get to the upper stories for ventilation.  Both halves of the duplex suffered damage.  Story and video on the ABC 27 Website.
Thanks to Chief 19 (Dressler) and www.westenolafire.com for the below picture.  More pictures are on their website.

Around 15:20 hours on Tuesday July 24th, crews were dispatched to 410 North Enola Road for an auto accident.  Chief 1-18 (Stazewski) was unable to find the accident, and directed Engine 20 to check North Enola Drive for the incident.  Crews arrived on scene to find a vehicle had sheared off a pole, with the driver needing assistance to get out of the vehicle.  Picture below is from http://www.summerdalefire.com/ (another picture is on their website).

Around 15:30 hours on Monday June 18th, Rescue 18 was dispatched with the rest of the EPFD for a kitchen fire with entrapment in Creekside's district.  ALS arrived on scene, and reported to county that they had made contact with the trapped person, who was in the basement, and could not escape due to the heat and smoke.  The rescue arrived on scene, and Chief 18 (Rudeck) and Firefighter B. Rott Sr. went in and rescued the victim, while Chief 1-18 (Stazewski) opened the roof for vertical ventilation.  More details on this save will be posted as they are interviewed.  ABC27 has a brief story with some video on their site.  The WGAL Channel also has a brief story.  WHP TV21 also has some video.

Some pictures of the incident can be found at Capital City Fire Photos, a site run by Jason Coleman-Cobb, a local fire buff who documents many local fires.  Keep up the good work Jason!  Chief Rudeck and Brian Rott Sr. made the grab.

Around 14:35 hours on Thursday June 7th, Rescue 18 was dispatched to an auto accident with a vehicle overturned in the 19-01 box at Magaro Road and Creekside Drive.  Chief 5 (Bumgardner) arrived on scene, to find one vehicle on its side,  with the patient already out.  Rescue crews assisted with spill control, and cutting the battery cable to secure the power to the vehicle.  Pictures and more of the story on the West Enola Website.

Around 15:30 hours on Sunday June 3rd, A first alarm assignment was dispatched to 244 North Enola Drive, for a porch fire reported out.  The address was several doors down from the firehouse, so crews were on scene quickly.  The Police department had the visible fire knocked down with a garden hose.  Chief 18 (Rudeck) held the box to Rescue 18 and Engine 20, and crews began overhaul operations.  Chief 1-18 (Stazewski) discovered an area of smoldering insulation, which crews removed, and extinguished.  Pictures on the Summerdale website.

Around 21:30 hours on Thursday May 31st, Rescue 18 was dispatched to an auto accident with a vehicle overturned in the 19-01 box at Wertzville Road and East Penn Drive.  Rescue crews assisted with debris cleanup from one of the vehicles involved.  Pictures and story on the West Enola Website.

On Sunday May 13th, Rescue 18 was dispatched for cardboard bales and pallets on fire behind Kmart, at the Summerdale Plaza.  Chief 1-18 (Stazewski) arrived on scene, and reported a working fire.  Chief 18 (Rudeck) requested Engine 20 to be dispatched to the scene.  Engine 20 arrived first, and began extinguishing the fire, and ripping the bales apart.  Rescue 18 arrived, pulled a line, and also worked on extinguishing the fire (Firefighters J. Rudeck and J. Allison).  Pictures from www.summerdalefire.com

On Saturday May 12th, crews responded to 15 Cherish Drive for a reported deck fire.  A Duty Chief from 19 arrived on scene, and confirmed a working house fire.  Rescue crews assisted with traffic control, Manpower, and filling cylinders.  Some pictures are on the West Enola website, and a few are on Capital City Fire Photos.

10:45pm Sunday May 6th - Trench Weekend Pictures are up!  Day One Day 2 - Part 1 Day 2 - Part 2

On Friday May 4th 2007, Several members from Citizens Fire Company assisted in a mock DUI crash on Shady Lane, in front of the entrance to the East Pennsboro High School parking lot.  Jeff Fair drove the Rescue, Lonnie Stazewski (Chief 1-18) was in the officers seat, John Kleinpeter (Chief 2-18) ran Command, and Greg Bartolo participated as a firefighter.  Lonnie and Greg worked on the passenger side of the truck, to free a trapped patient, while crews from Summerdale worked on the drivers side.  Lonnie popped the door, and Greg cut the A post, and started cutting the B post, so that the roof could be removed, to assist with patient removal.  Several news outlets were on the scene covering the event.  Follow the links to see the written story, and the video (video will play after the brief commercial).

6:10pm Sunday April 29th - Crews completed day three of the Mason Dixon Trench Weekend, being held in York.  Bobby Rudeck, June Rudeck, Lonnie Stazewski, Brian Rott, John Kleinpeter, Jeff Allison, and Greg Bartolo are in attendance.  Crews spent Saturday and Sunday working on a difficult X shaped trench.  Work was being done with Baden Fire Deparement, and Sardis Fire Department, from Western Pennsylvania, as well as a member from West End Fire and Rescue, from Shippensburg.  TROT was also represented by Company 40, with their Collapse Unit, and two members from Company 28.

5:10pm Wednesday April 25th - Call Log Updated!  65 Calls for the year.

On Monday March 19th, crews were called out to 258 North Enola Drive, to assist EMS with lifting.  Chief 2-18 (Kleinpeter) arrived on scene, and summoned additional assistance, due to the rickety stairs the patient would have to be carried down.  Engine 20 and Truck 30 were called to assist, with truck 30 bringing the patient down with the bucket.  Thanks to Companies 20 and 30 for the assistance.

Additional pictures of the 414 -- 416 Shady Lane fire from Jason Coleman-Cobb can be found at Capital City Fire Photos (be sure to check out his whole site for LOTS of pictures from local Harrisburg-area incidents).  There are also a few pictures of the incident at www.summerdalefire.com.

UPDATE - Chief 5 contacted Chief 18 around 08:30 Friday Morning, and informed him that Township personnel posting condemned signs on the fire buildings noted sporadic puffs of smoke coming from the eaves.  Chief 18 and Captain 18 investigated, and discovered that some of the old blown-in insulation was smoldering.  Rescue 18, Engine 20, and Tanker 20 were dispatched to the scene for a 'rekindle.'  Crews spent some time performing additional overhaul, due to smoldering blown-in insulation making its way into void spaces.

The quote of the day comes from Leo Stapleton, former Fire Chief/Commissioner of Boston, and author of numerous books regarding the fire service:  "Sometimes we make parking lots."

Around 2:45am Friday February 9th, crews were dispatched to 414 Shady Lane for a kitchen fire.  Crews en-route to the firehouse could see the fire billowing above the roofline, and Chief 18 arrived on scene to report a working fire in a two and a half story duplex, with heavy fire showing from 2 windows on the B/C corner, from division 2.  Engine 20 and Rescue 18 arrived on scene around the same time, with Engine 20 laying in from Carlisle Avenue to the scene.  Rescue 18 and Engine 20 crews combined to begin initial suppression efforts.   Crews advanced a handline to the second floor to begin fire attack, while Engine 20 and Engine 19 operated deck guns to attempt to darken down the fire.  Additional crews arrived, and went to work in the fire building, as well as the exposure building, which was also becoming involved with fire in Division 2 and in the Attic.

Crews on scene included Engines 16, 17, 19, 20, 1-21, 2-21, Perry County 6, Salvage 21, Engine 2-13, Engine 4-30, Trucks 14 & 30, Tankers 19 & 20, Rescues 18, Dauphin 37, York County Rescue 69 for RIT.  Several ambulances from 75, 14, and 71 were also on scene, as well as Medic 85.

Numerous transfers were also initiated, due to the extended duration of the call, and cold weather (around 12 degrees when the call came in).
Cumberland County crews were also heavily taxed by a working structure fire in Wormleysburg around 4:15am, which resulted in several crews and their rigs leaving our incident, to assist with theirs.

A good job was done by all, and Citizens Fire Company #1 of Enola wishes to extend its thanks to everyone who helped out at the scene.

Around 3:15am on Saturday February 3rd, crews were dispatched to 120 York Street for a reported car fire.  Rescue 18 and Engine 20 were the initial units on the box.  Chief 1-18 arrived on scene, and advised County to strike the first alarm, due to the volume of fire, and the proximity of the vehicle to the structure.  This marks the first working fire in our district for the Rescue, since getting rid of the 1969 LaFrance around seven months ago.

Around 8:00pm on Monday January 22nd, crews were dispatched to the Morris Laundromat at the intersection of Dauphin Street and North Enola Road, for a reported washing machine fire.  Chief 18 took command, while Chief 1-18 ran interior operations.  Engine 19 and Truck 17 provided ventilation, to clear out a smoke haze in the structure.  No fire was evident...it appeared to be a washing machine malfunction (motor burned up).

Around 4:00pm on Thursday January 18th, crews were dispatched to 94 Front Street in West Fairview for a working structure fire.  Crews assisted with fire suppression and overhaul.  Chief 18 ran command for the call, and Chief 2-18 ran Manpower.  It was a long duration call, and a good job was done by all crews involved.  Click here to see the WGAL Channel news coverage (several pictures).

Around 7:00pm on Saturday January 13th, crews were dispatched to 232 North Enola drive, for a structure fire with entrapment.  The dispatch raised some concern among members, because the firehouse sits at 230 North Enola Drive.  Fire Crews and the East Pennsboro Township Police Department began arriving at the firehouse, and found no incident.  Chief 18 advised to check 232 South Enola Drive.  Shortly thereafter, Chief 17 went on the scene at 232 South Enola Drive, with a working fire, with fire showing through the roof.  Rescue 18 arrived on scene, with Chief 18 taking the Manpower Pool, Firefighter Walk going to the roof for ventilation, Firefighter Bartolo assisting Chief 1-17 with horizontal ventilation and then basement search duties, and the rest of the crew as RIT team.  Crews ended up performing salvage and overhaul, with Firefighter Fenerty filling cylinders and handling equipment from the Rescue.

We finished 2006 with 208 calls. Click here to see the 2006 Call Log
